A group of families meeting together on January 16, 1924 organized the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Laurel. The first full-time pastor was Rev. T. S. Stockdal. The congregation held worship services in the old Congregational Church and later purchased a building from the Ryan Creamer Company on Second Avenue and First Street. This congregation was organized in 1925 when a group of Lutherans rented an unused Methodist church. A few years later the Methodists reorganized, and the Lutherans moved to the Episcopal Church. When the Methodists disbanded the Lutherans bought their church, and they worshipped there until October 26, 1980 when a new sanctuary was dedicated.
